Schedules, assigns daily duties, and assesses the general performance of the nursing staff in the practice. Performs a variety of functions and technical procedures necessary for the admission of patients, utilizing the Nursing processes of assessment, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, and outcome evaluation. Performs all duties of a Registered Professional Nurse as necessary.
Supervises, hires, educates, disciplines and evaluates the performance of nursing staff. Ensures performance appraisals are completed in a timely manner. Interviews nursing candidates and orients new employees.
Plans daily work schedule for the nurses and medical assistants, ensures 24/7 coverage, when applicable. Develops long-term practice staffing schedules and ensures adequate daily coverage in accordance with established staffing needs.
Precepts, mentors and acts as a resource to staff. Educates staff in new and existing department procedures and systems (e.g. information systems, fiscal responsibility, etc). Makes recommendations and provides opportunities for growth and development of personnel and arranges for appropriate education and training.
Oversees the education and orientation of nursing staff and keeps abreast of current trends, quality issues and departmental affairs. Provides lectures, discussions and in-service education programs to staff.
Oversees the quality assurance initiatives for the practice.
Develops measures and monitors practice clinical operational performance metrics inclusive of agency and overtime costs.
Identifies quality improvement issues and develops practice based quality improvement programs, as well as standards of care and practice.
Maintains a current level of knowledge inclusive of Evidenced Based Practice relative to professional practice.
Participates in the evaluation of the cost effectiveness of services provided.
Provides clinical support during physician office sessions.
Conducts monthly meetings with the staff to address equipment, scheduling, goals and objectives, performance metrics and improvement activities, and any staff concerns.
Performs related duties, as required.
• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, required. Master's Degree, preferred.
• Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State.
• Minimum of three (3) years progressively responsible nursing experience, required.
