Performs vascular studies on assigned patients. Collaborates with clinicians to ensure appropriateness of studies and performs related administrative tasks.
Prepares patient for examination
Reviews patient’s medical status and explains procedure in easy-to-understand terms based on professional knowledge to relieve patient of pre-testing anxiety.
Sets-up equipment to administer particular procedure in timely fashion.
Positions patient on examination table for optimum testing procedure and conditions.
Performs vascular studies as directed by referring physician.
Measures and calculates pressures and pulse on peripheral arteries and veins throughout body (carotid, aorta, femoral, popliteal, saphenous).
Performs electrocardiograms, as required.
Enters patient information into department computer system. Prepares and transmits related reports, as required.
Notifies appropriate clinician upon completion for review.
Performs equipment calibration and adjustments. Reports malfunctioning equipment to management.
Adheres to Infection Control guidelines in the performance of duties. Maintains cleanliness of work area, equipment and accessories.
Performs related duties, as required.
Graduate of an accredited medical sonography program, required.
Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) with American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) OR Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) with Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI), required.
Minimum of three (3) years ultrasound experience in hospital setting, required. Prior vascular technology experience, preferred.
Ability to communicate effectively, required.
