Job Description

Responsible for coordinating non-clinical activities for a patient care unit under the direction of the nurse in charge and/or Nurse Manager in accordance with local, state, federal, Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies. Provides assistance to nursing staff by accurately transcribing and placing orders into the system.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Greets patients, family members, visitors, physicians and faculty staff who arrive on unit.

  • Responds to requests for patients, family members, visitors, physicians and faculty staff.

  • Obtains patient information prior to admission.

  • Processes patient registration.

  • Coordinates patient transport.

  • Compiles, completes necessary documents and performs clerical tasks for patient being discharged and / or transferred to another internal nursing unit.

  • Act as a patient advocate to ensure that patient needs and concerns are being addressed appropriately.

  • Checks patient charts for orders that need to be transcribed.

  • Transcribes patients vital signs into MediTech clinical system.

  • Maintains patient records from admission to discharge or transfer, labels and assembles patient charts upon admission.

  • Prepares patient record for Operating Room and / or other special procedures.

  • Maintains personal professional competency through in-service and meeting attendance.

  • Ensures that HIPAA regulations, Joint Commission standards and PMHC corporate compliance policies are adhered to.

  • Attends all hospital or departmental in-services.

  • Completes annual HSEP and health assessment as required by Joint Commission.

  • Performs related duties, as necessary.


  • High School diploma or equivalent, required.

  • Excellent verbal communication skills, and organizational skills.

  • Computer proficiency and familiarity with MS Officer software (Word / Excel).

  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
