Job Description

Obtaining patient information, preparing standard registration and billing forms, data entry and maintaining high level of public relations with clinic visitors and staff.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Schedules patients for necessary appointments.

  • Verifies that patient has appropriately signed consent form and is a member of the School Health Center.

  • Logs each patient as they arrive for treatment.

  • Pulls or assembles charts. Fills out encounter forms, and appropriate medical record forms for each patient as they arrive.

  • Requests Medicaid cards and insurance information from patients. Validates Medicaid cards.

  • Files charts in file cabinets and pulls charts of scheduled patients daily.

  • Enters all data from encounter forms into computer data system on a daily basis.

  • Issues early excuse passes to allow patients to leave school before their scheduled dismissal time.

  • Issues passes to patients to allow them to return to class from an appointment.

  • Enters patient registration information of all enrollees into SIUH and School Health Center data systems. Verifies existing medical record number or assigns one to new patients.

  • Enters patient billing information into SIUH computer system.

  • Verifies departmental charge reports and registrations and corrects errors.

  • Calls or corresponds with Business Office to expedite resolution of billing problems as they occur.

  • Performs clerical duties such as filing and photocopying.

  • Screens all telephone calls, answers questions, transfers calls to proper staff member, records and relays messages appropriately.

  • Accesses 911 and Poison Control Center in accordance with established policies and procedures.

  • Refers any patient requiring medical services, social services, or health education to the appropriate School Health Center team member, either for immediate evaluation or by making an appointment.

  • Maintains patient confidentiality to protect patient rights. Remains nonjudgmental when confronted with various problems and concerns of the patients the School Health Center serves.

  • Participates in School Health Center staff meetings and inservice training.

  • Relates to patients in a manner appropriate for their age, level of understanding and culture. Seeks and interpreter for non-English speaking and deaf patients.

  • Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals by identifying every patient by full name and date of birth.

Qualifications

  • High School graduate or equivalent. Work requires ability to read and write well enough to understand detailed instructions. Requires familiarity with computer data entry skills.

  • Six to twelve months prior related experience. Medical office or hospital registration experience preferred.interpersonal skills

  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. •Interpersonal skills
