As a Standardized Patient, you will have the unique opportunity to be involved in shaping the medical education of tomorrow’s physicians and other health care professionals. In doing so, you will assist in transforming care and providing positive experiences for our patients.
Standardized Patients simulate individuals in various medical, behavioral and emotional scenarios. Each scenario is designed to meet the needs of the customer, their curriculum and associated learning objectives. As part of your responsibilities you will be required to complete a detailed assessment tool (checklist) of your learner and may be called upon to provide verbal feedback regarding their communication skills
While acting experience can be helpful it is not a requirement and the position should not be viewed as a professional acting engagement.
Responsibilities include :
Simulating individuals in both clinical and non-clinical scenarios for teaching and/or assessment activities
Simulating all aspects of a scenario including: history of current illness, psychosocial profile, behavioral characteristics and physical attributes as trained, in a standardized, accurate and realistic manner
Participating (as the “patient) in physical examination allowing the learner to practice their physical examination skills
Providing constructive feedback to learners following the formula provided by the Clinical Skills Center
Completing detailed assessment tools accurately, consistently and as trained by Standardized Patient Educators
Accepting of on-going feedback regarding all aspects of your patient simulation from Standardized Patient Educators and Clinical Skills Center administrative staff and incorporating changes as required
Performing related duties as assigned
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Appropriate Department of Labor working papers, required.
Acting experience, preferred.
Ability to read, memorize lines and understand intent of scenarios.
Demonstrated ability and willingness to work cooperatively and professionally with learners, faculty and administrators
Demonstrated ability to be instructed/Coached by an SP Trainer and consistently simulate a case scenario in a standardized, accurate, and reliable manner.
Able to be flexible regarding scheduling and assignments.
Excellent communication skills.
Computer proficiency for communication/scheduling purposes.
