Job Description

Acts as liaison between departments using the Automated Dispensing System (ADS). Ensures procurement of pharmaceuticals, equipment and supplies required by the Pharmacy to deliver comprehensive services. Works with Pharmacy staff to facilitate inventory control activities.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Acts as liaison between departments and nursing units the Automated Dispensing System (ADS).

  • Adds and deletes users to the System.

  • Trains new users to the operations of the System and inventory management.

  • Reviews monthly reports. Informs management of discrepancies.

  • Acts as liaison between the pharmacist and/or pharmacy technician to assure adequate personnel are available to replenish the System Medstations.

  • Determines, with other healthcare workers, additions or deletions or medication from the System Medstation.

  • Assists departments and nursing units with ADS mechanical and software problems. Acts as the liaison with the ADS vendor to assure Medstations are repaired as soon as possible.

  • Participates in various Quality Assurance projects. Checks trends of medication usage, (i.e. doses removed from ADS vs. dose administered).

  • Monitors expiration dates of medications contained in the ADS Units.

  • Assists in developing and implementing inventory control procedures to provide quality drug products at the lowest acquisition cost and minimize situations when pharmaceuticals are in short supply.

  • Reviews hospital and group purchasing contracts on an ongoing basis. Utilizes contracts in purchasing activities, unless otherwise directed. Identifies and informs the management of products not currently under contract.

  • Edits pharmacy worksheets to document changes in hospital/group contracts.

  • Determines par stock levels, based on usage, enabling Pharmacy to keep adequate supplies or pharmaceuticals in inventory.

  • Reviews the pharmacy order sheets and actual inventory when preparing orders for pharmaceuticals, supplies and equipment.

  • Prepares and places orders to minimize short supply situations. Assists in procurement of medications from other hospitals when needed in an emergency.

  • Reviews received orders to identify and correct discrepancies. Informs management of discrepancies.

  • Provides guidance and communication with the staff regarding inventory control activities.

  • Performs related duties, as required.


  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.

  • Minimum of three (3) years experience in a hospital pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician.

  • Experience with computer applications.
